Happy Birthday George!

Well typically we celebrate the third Monday in February as the birthday of George Washington....most people either forget or never knew that George Washington was actually born on February llth, in 1732 when the nation used the Julian Calendar. In 1752 the Colonies decided to change and use the Gregorian Calendar thus making the birthday of our Founding President February 22nd.

Well...whenever his birthday is....Happy Birthday George!

Wikipedia tells us that the longest running and largest celebration of our first President's birthday is held in Laredo Texas each year....surprising...I would have thought that it might be in Mount Vernon or even New York where Washington was headquarter during the War of Independence. factoids and history!

Re-produced paintings of history.....

Our County has an amazing amount of history that most people don't realize is here or ignore as they go about their daily business.... I found it quite interesting that a local artist decided to put it where it can be noticed.

Along the waterfront in Newburgh there is a wall which holds the tressel for the train passing through the is in a very stratigic spot...near the waterfront restaurant area more specifically near Torches which everyone seems to know....the lovely artwork depics an era gone by and an amazing amount of local historical sites that can be stretches out for more than a city block....this particular one depicts Washington's Headquarters which is only a few blocks away and can be visited and amazing historical artifacts can be seen. In addition they have tours and re-enactors who can describe in detail the time and events as they were then....what it was like to live and work in those times in this area...amazing and worth a trip there to see it!

Vintage Valentine

I love these old fashioned Valentines....makes me recall when we were kids and our parents would get you a great big box of valentines for you to give to each kid in your class.

Valentine's Day Quote

“I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.”

Butterfly Dance

My one line group ATC Anonymous does challenges once a year. This is where the moderator or substitue moderator in this case sends everyone who signs up the exact same grouping of "stuff" we create an ATC out of the pieces adding embellishments and anything else that works for us.

Everything shown with the exception of the metal embellishments and the clay piece were included in the "stuff" which was sent....alittle imagination and a stamp which I already possessed created this ATC which was submitted.

I am looking forward to seeing what the others created for the Challenge....we submit 4 and get four back!

Memory Lane....

Taking a drive on Saturday just to get out of the house, I took a road I haven't been on in was one of those roads that as a kid my friends and I rode our bicycles on in the summers lazing the days was interesting to see that the railroad tressel which existed as a kid are no longer there... the only remmant was this stone wall which supported the tressel...time marching on....

....and on another road that I seldom go on, I passed and old dairy barn which I always loved the lines it's "hay" day this farm produced milk which was carted by horse drawn carts to the railroad and loaded on and brought to the factories which then bottled and sent it on for distribution...

An interesting drive which stirred up lots of memories from when I was a kid....

Day & Night

After many many days of no sun....on Friday night heading home from work I was able to catch this beautiful sunset....this shot was inspired by a friend who also caught a summer sunset in this same vacinity...mine isn't as rich and red as a summer sunset, but was very pleasing to me....not retouched....just God given colors.

The next morning we had snow and freezing rain....mostly freezing one point I was able to catch the large snowflakes coming down...

Tis the season for interesting weather events!
